Town Hall Meeting to Discuss Homeowner, Mortgage Rights

Bay City lawmaker to co-host community event with Bay County REALTORŪ Association

LANSING – State Representative Jeff Mayes (D-Bay City) is co-hosting a town hall meeting with the Bay County REALTOR® Association on Monday, Aug. 10, in order to meet with homeowners and discuss how they can protect themselves against scammers, as well as the options available to help them stay in their home. Mayes will be joined at the event by a coalition of community officials, lawmakers, and representatives from the real estate industry.

"Michigan has been hit hard by the housing crisis, and too many Bay City residents are hanging on by just a thread," Mayes said. "I want to make sure that people know their rights and the steps they can take to hold on to their piece of the American Dream."

The town hall meeting will be held on Monday, Aug. 10, at 6:30 p.m., at the Bay County Community Center, 800 JFK Drive in Bay City. Joining Mayes at the community event will be State Representative Andy Coulouris (D-Saginaw), architect of the 90-day foreclosure lifeline for struggling homeowners that recently became law, Sharon Brown, Vice President and Mortgage Loss Mitigation Manager at Independent Bank, Brenda Christian from Bay Area Housing and Mike Samborn, broker/owner of All Star Real Estate.

"Many options have recently come available at the state and federal level to help homeowners struggling to make their payments," said Sharon Brown, Vice President and Mortgage Loss Mitigation Manager at Independent Bank. "I look forward to this opportunity to meet with residents and help them understand the steps they can take to help them stay in their homes."

Brown, Christian and Samborn will each give presentations at the event to help homeowners handle mortgage issues and find out what options are available to them.

"The housing crisis has been felt in every corner of our state," Samborn said. "Here in Bay City, we've seen the impact that vacant homes and businesses can have on our community. I applaud Rep. Mayes for his efforts to help families throughout Bay City keep their homes."
