"This is a great honor, and I'm thankful for the opportunity to serve in this leadership position," said Mayes, who represents the 96th District. "With our state facing such serious challenges, it's important that we come together and work toward the innovative solutions Michigan needs to create good-paying jobs now and grow our economy. We can't afford to wait – we need to hit the ground running."
The Majority Whip acts as a liaison between caucus members and leadership and assists with directing activities on the House Floor. During House Session, the Whip works to garner support amongst the caucus for proposed legislation.
Mayes' priorities for the 95th Legislature include revitalizing Michigan's economy by attracting new businesses in high-growth fields like renewable energy, creating new good-paying jobs now, and expanding opportunities for Michigan residents by strengthening education, expanding access to higher education, and making health care more affordable for workers.
"I look forward to the opportunity to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to create smart solutions for Michigan," said Mayes, who also serves as Chair of the House Energy and Technology Committee. "Our working families are demanding change, not more paralyzing partisan bickering. They deserve a Legislature that works for them, and I will work to ensure that they get it."
