I'd like to congratulate Reese Haller, the youngest published fiction author in America, on all of his accomplishments. Reese is 9 years old and a fourth-grader at Kolb Elementary School in Bay City. He began writing short stories when he was in kindergarten, where he was encouraged to take risks with his writing. He discovered his joy and passion in the third grade, where he blossomed as a writer.
When Reese was 8, before entering fourth grade, he wrote the first book in the "Fred the Mouse Series: The Adventures Begin". It has been nominated for a Michigan Notable Books Award and a Benjamin Franklin Award.
I had the opportunity to meet Reese recently when he visited me in my legislative office in Lansing. He is an amazing student and an outstanding young man. I look forward to reading many more notable books from Reese. Congratulations to Reese Haller on his many accomplishments!
